The legendary Vought F4U Corsair was one of the greatest American fighter aircraft of all time. A carrier-based fighter-bomber, it was the premier Navy and Marine fighter during the late World War II and the Korean War. The Corsair was the first American-made aircraft to reach 400 miles per hour in level flight. In addition to its huge propeller and distinctive bent-wing shape, the aircraft was also known for the peculiar sound it made at a higher airspeed.
