The idea behind the TWSBI Diamond 530, 540, and 580 was to go back to basics and capture the simplicity and elegance of traditional writing instruments. In recent years, the development and modernization of writing instruments has resulted in traditional writing instruments, such as fountain pens, falling into obscurity. It was their goal to bring the past back to life by creating a traditional fountain pen that even modern day society can appreciate.
TWSBI Diamond 580, a classic fountain pen with a piston ink-filling system. By fusing the traditional mechanisms of the fountain pen with a modern industrial design, they have created an eye-catching fountain pen that is simultaneously appreciative of the past and relevant in the present. The Diamond 580 comes with a benchmark ink-filling mechanism and has all detachable parts. TWSBI felt that it was important to allow the user to disassemble and reassemble the pen and completely experience the traditional aspects of owning and using a fountain pen.
TWSBI Diamond 580AL Fountain Pen in a beautiful dark rose pink. Transparent barrel reveals the pink anodized aluminium filling mechanism, a built-in piston-filler with a very smooth action. Chromed metal trim and pocket clip. TWSBI logo nicely finishes the top of the pen's cap. Rubber o-ring on cap thread ensures an airtight seal to prevent ink drying out in the pen, whilst also ensuring that the cap is firmly attached to the pen when not in use.
Along with the rose anodized aluminium filling mechanism, this AL version features an aluminium grip section to help better balance the pen.
Diamond-faceted barrel ensures pen will not roll away if left uncapped on a desk.
Polished steel nib engraved with TWSBI logo and branding, available in a range of nib sizes: extra-fine, fine, medium, broad and stub.
141mm long closed, 130mm long open, 176mm long posted. 12.9mm max barrel diameter, grip section tapers down to 9.5mm. Weighs 32g - just a little heavier than the standard model Diamond 580.
Note: piston-filler pens cannot use cartridges.
There are some white marks on the pistons of these pens; this is grease to ensure that the piston action is smooth and reliable.
Like all TWSBI fountain pens we stock, this pen can be entirely disassembled for the purposes of cleaning and servicing. Instructions and necessary tools are supplied with each pen. However, the disassembly feature is only there for experienced users and is not necessary for normal use. Disassembly is at your own risk!
A quick no brainer guide in choosing nib sizes in an overly complicated fountain pen world:
If you write small, go with an EF
For the normal writer, F is the most popular
If you tend to lean on a bigger font, M will be perfect
B is for statements!! Sign a check in B, write a header in B, do some coloring/shading in B
