Product Info

The soft nib and comfortable design help you make the finest strokes.

If fine writing is what you seek in a pen, then the Pilot Falcon Fountain Pen is definitely worth having a look at.

The major strength of this writing instrument is its nib - an extraordinary softness.

The Pilot Falcon fountain pen (in the past called the Namiki Falcon) has a 14-karat gold nib that is softer than what is used in most other high-quality pens. This makes for exceptionally smooth and flexible writing and drawing without requiring a lot of pressure.

Its quality is also evident in its captivating classic design. A quality fountain pen always brings something more to the paper, and that is definitely the case for the Pilot Falcon. With its semi-flexible 14-karat gold nib with rhodium plating, you can add line variation to your writing, drawing or sketching with ease.

Japan is known and admired for its long tradition in calligraphy, and this can often be seen in Japanese pens as well. It is a very good everyday writer, but if you want to add an extra flair to your handwriting or drawing, all you have to do is apply a bit more pressure, which will spread the tines of the nib, creating a wider line. By alternating the amount of pressure you use (add pressure on the downstroke, release pressure on the upstroke), you give a wonderful calligraphic flair to your handwriting. The effect of the line variation is most noticeable on the fine nib, and more subtle on the medium and broad nibs, so keep this in mind when choosing your pen.

Although the focus may have been on performance, a lot of attention has clearly gone into the design of the Pilot Falcon as well.

Its lacquered steel barrel comes in classic black, with rhodium-plated accents. Its sleek body and moderate weight of 19 grams make the Pilot Falcon a fountain pen that is pleasant to hold – especially during longer writing sessions – and allows for the flexibility and light touch that fit its soft nib. The pen’s pocket clip on the screw cap is in line with the timeless class of the overall design.

The Pilot Falcon fountain pen uses either a cartridge or a CON-40 converter. Either way, it is easy to fill the pen. Remove the grip from the barrel by twisting it. Then insert the converter or a cartridge, depending on your personal preference. The converter uses a piston mechanism. This means that first, you dip the nib in a bottle of ink, after which you twist the knob at the end of the converter to take in the ink. When finished, briefly let the excess ink drip back into the bottle and wipe the nib with a piece of paper or cloth to prevent staining, and you’re ready to start writing.

If flexibility and variation are what you’re looking for in your writing, or if you would like to use your fountain pens for drawing or sketching, then the Pilot Falcon is definitely worth a try. The soft MEDIUM nib and comfortable design help you make the finest strokes.

This piece is in immaculate condition - virtually brand-new. A Customer, (an extremely meticulous enthusiast), whom we know very well, purchased it from us recently. He found the Medium Nib a bit too broad for his liking, gradually leaning towards pens with a Fine Nib. He bought another unit with a Fine Nib instead. It has been inked - twice and has been thoroughly cleaned.
